Return To Play Info

Apr. 09, 2021

Dear Members,

Thank you for your continued patience with the rollout of the 2021 soccer season.

Our Return to Play Plan has been approved by the City of Merritt and can be found below.

Also below is the Agreement to Complete Daily Health Check - Players.  The first page must be signed by a parent/guardian and returned to your coach on the first practice. Your child will not be able to participate until this form is signed and given to their coach. The second page of agreement is the daily checklist for you to go over with your child before they come to each practice. The second page does not have to be handed in, but please ensure your are going thru it before each practice.

As you might have guessed, this year will look a bit different but we are committed to doing our best to promote fun and safe soccer activities for the duration.

Teams and coaches have been identified and if you haven't heard from your coach yet, you can expect to hear details in the coming days.

MYSA is meeting with coaches on April 12th to discuss logistics and distribute equipment. We will spend the week supporting coaches and offering any resources that we have at our fingertips.

The biggest change this year is no games and this includes no scrimmages at practice. As well, no spectators are allowed to line the field like we have done in years past and participants must adhere to 3 meters of social distancing while engaged in soccer activities. This will take some creativity and grace as we work with all age groups. We have a bit of leniency with the U5-U9 age groups in terms of parent participation for safety reasons. Your league director will be able to provide more information on this but please feel free to forward any questions.

The pandemic continues to impact the operations and delivery of everything we once relied on as "normal" and MYSA is not gone unscathed. Our largest expense is uniforms and equipment. After purchasing our order in the fall of 2019 in preparation for the 2020 season, we were stuck with a large expense and lost registration revenue. It was only by the commitment of families in this community that we were able to stay afloat. We remain extremely appreciative of our members who kept their fees on file with us last year to ensure that we could continue to operate.

That said, we are still functioning under a very confusing time and the truth is, we don't know what this season will look like. Our goal is to rollout and take it as it comes. Ride the wave, so to speak. Uniforms will be distributed at the first session with coaches but because we are at the mercy of public health orders, if our season is cut short, uniforms cannot be returned. As such, MYSA's refund policy has been adjusted and the amount returned will be determined by the number of weeks played, less the uniform and an admin fee. MYSA's Refund Policy is also below for your review. Thank you for understanding. Please feel free to forward any questions you may have.

There is nothing better than seeing kids running around on a field and although it may look a little different this year, we will still find the essence of the game on smiling faces, the smell of fresh cut grass, and soccer balls flying everywhere.

See you on the field!
